Effect of Pranoprofen in Various Orthopedic Conditions

Abstract
|
|
|
The newly developed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug “Pranoprofen", which belongs to the propionic acid series was tested clinically for the evaluation of it´s efficacy in nine orthopedic conditions, such as degenerative spondylitis, lumbar disc herniation, chronic lumbago, gonarthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis and others.
1) The efficacy of the drug was not influenced by the patient´s sex and age and also by the causative disease and it´s severity.
2) Symptomatic improvement obtained in 11(98%) of 14 lumbago patients and 5(70%) of 7 gonarthrosis patients. However, slight symptomatic improvement obtained at 4weeks after the initiation of drug therapy in 2 of 4 rheumatoid patients.
3) Pain was effectively controlled in the frozen shoulder, bursitis, and neck pain syndromes, but efficacy was not obtained in a case suffering from chronic ankle sprain.
4) The complications, such as gastrointestinal troubles and facial puffiness were relieved soon after discontinuation of the drug.
